Breast Cancer Awareness Event 'Broaden the Conversation'

Heart Health Event - April 30, 2022
Please join the Heart Health Committee in conjunction with the Black Heart Association and the Greater Community M.B. Church, Health and Wellness Ministry for a presentation on heart attack/stroke prevention and FREE heart health screenings. The Black Heart Association will have its mobile unit there to provide the following FREE screenings: Cholesterol, Glucose, Stress and Lipoprotein (a). This event is open to the entire community. For the community, temperatures will be checked and masks are highly encouraged. Sorors must follow Sorority guidelines for in-person activities (must be fully vaccinated, show proof of vaccination, wear mask and sign Sorority waiver). Family Expo
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.® Xi Theta Omega Chapter and The Arlington Foundation for Excellence in Education are proud to partner with The Arlington ISD Parent and Community Engagement Department to host the 2021 Family Expo Resource Fair. Family Expo events have consisted of nearly 400 people attending this free family-centered expo with sessions geared towards all ages absorbing and discovering new methods in maintaining or improving their overall health and to increase financial accountability. We look forward to this in person event.
The Arlington Family Expo is an extraordinary educational event open to the public and families throughout the metroplex. We hope you will attend and help spread the word about the upcoming Family Expo. |

Pink Goes Red
Cardiovascular diseases kill nearly 50,000 African American women annually. Of African American women ages 20 and older, 49% have heart disease. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Xi Theta Omega Chapter in conjunction with the American Heart Association is raising awareness regarding Women’s Heart Health on their annual Wear Red Day. The American Cancer Society started Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks to unite communities in the fight against this deadly disease. Today, Making Strides is the largest network of breast cancer events in the nation - and we do more than just walk. We raise money to help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking breast cancer research and provide patient services like free rides to chemo, free places to stay near treatment, and a live 24/7 cancer helpline.
This year, the walk will be at the Gene & Jerry Jones Family Hope Lodge on Saturday, October 30th at 8:30 am.
Join Team Hope is Dope in partner with Xi Theta Omega in the walk to fight against Breast Cancer.

The Xi Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc.® and the Arlington Public Library invites parents and students in kindergarten - 6th grade to attend a Virtual Children’s Reading Hour featuring 13-year-old author, April Lynn Pelton on Saturday, September 18th from 2:30pm – 3:30pm! April will read her book, lead a Q&A discussion with students and parents about anti-bullying, respect of others, and practicing humility. April is a local author who has published two books and is excited to share her experiences. We hope you can join us! Once registered, you will receive a confirmation email.
